Toyota Air Filter Replacement in Scranton, PA

The engine air filter is an important component of your system to help the vehicle run as it should. The cabin air filter is also an important component that keeps your vehicle’s A/C running smoothly. You can have your Toyota serviced and the filters replaced at the service department for Toyota of Scranton.

How to Know Your Engine Air Filter Needs to be Replaced

Your vehicle will show signs when the engine air filter is no longer doing its job effectively. One thing you’ll notice is that your fuel efficiency has decreased. Your engine needs to have proper airflow to work efficiently.

When the air filter gets dirty, it can’t allow air to circulate through as easily. The engine must work harder to do its job. This means it will take more fuel for the vehicle to run. You may not notice it in the beginning, but in time, you’ll see the difference in how often you need to fill up the gas tank. If you feel like you’re stopping at the gas station more than you used to, it might be time to have your air filter checked.

Issues with the Engine Starting

When you put the key into the ignition and start the vehicle, do you notice that the engine sounds sluggish? Maybe you have difficulty getting it to start at all. If this is the case, it could be a sign that your filter needs to be changed.

When the engine air filter is dirty, it prevents air from getting into the engine. This will have a negative impact on the emission control system. Spark plugs may get gunk around them, which prevents them from sparking enough to start the engine.

Replacing Your Filter

You don’t want to wait until your filter is causing issues for the engine. Check the manufacturer’s recommendations in your owner’s manual to see how often it’s recommended that you get the filter replaced. Most often, it is between 12,000 and 15,000 miles.

If you drive on gravel roads or in other areas where there is extra dust, you would need to have the filter changed more often. Don’t wait until you start seeing problems to get it taken care of.

What the Cabin Air Filter Does

Many vehicle owners overlook the cabin air filter because they don’t realize its importance. The filter is often inspected when you have your vehicle serviced. Many customers decide not to replace it because they view it as an unnecessary cost. However, getting a new filter can make a big difference in the performance of your Toyota.

Prevent Pollution

Your cabin air filter needs replaced because of the amount of pollution that is trapped. The filter prevents much of the smog and other dirty air from getting into your cabin.

Reduce Allergies

These filters help reduce the number of allergens that get into the cabin from the air. When you don’t change out the filter, it can’t do its job, which means more pollen can get inside. Some areas have more pollen to deal with than others, which means you may need to change out your air filter more often.

Debris

The cabin air filter can prevent small types of debris from getting inside. For instance, it can stop leaves and twigs from clogging up your air system. If you live or drive around a rural area or park, you may notice more problems under trees.

What Happens with a Clogged Cabin Air Filter?

When the filter is clogged, it can’t do its job properly. It can lead to a lot of problems with your vehicle. First, it can reduce the efficiency of your air conditioning system because it must work harder to get the cool air through the filter. You may notice that your cabin doesn’t cool out as quickly.

A clogged air filter also places strain on the engine. It makes the engine work harder because it isn’t getting all the air it needs. You may be surprised to know that it can also lower your fuel efficiency, which means you will be buying more gas for your vehicle.

The filter should be checked at Toyota of Scranton service department every 12,000 to 16,000 miles. However, you should consult your owner’s manual for your specific model. Since many vehicles have filters that are hard to access for replacement, you’ll want to bring your vehicle to our service department. We’ll check the air filter and let you know if it’s time for it to be replaced.
