Meals on Wheels Blanket Drive

This year for Christmas, Toyota of Scranton took part in a countywide blanket drive on behalf of Meals on Wheels of Northeastern Pennsylvania. With the help of Toyota of Scranton, Meals on Wheels was able to donate hundreds of blankets, socks, and other winter gear to nearby recipients in an effort to ease the burden of cold winters while being limited to their homes. Toyota of Scranton remains dedicated to the community they serve, and helping the many Meals on Wheels participants is a great way for us to give back to the elderly or homebound residents of the area.

Meals on Wheels of America is a national organization that provides food and clothing to thousands of people around the United States, and in turn has over 5,000 independent local programs to help further its mission on a much smaller scale. Meals on Wheels NEPA is specific to Northeastern Pennsylvania, and serves Lackawanna County, and is in-part funded by generous donors as well as the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging. Meals on Wheels doesn’t only deliver food, but also has choices of programs for pet food, and even has a program dedicated to community health outreach. Meals on Wheels also has a vast network of volunteers, which not only include those who schedule and deliver meals, but also substitute drivers, community volunteers, and when necessary you can also volunteer to shovel snow and provide safe access for our members.

Toyota of Scranton spreads warm wishes to Meals on Wheels of Northeastern Pennsylvania by helping the organization with their goals of donating blankets, socks, along with supplemental funds. All donations were packed lovingly into the Toyota RAV4 that was donated to the Meals on Wheels fleet in 2019. As it was the first of Meals on Wheels NEPA’s all-wheel drive vehicle, the RAV4 was certainly an asset driving around the region in the winter months. Toyota of Scranton doesn’t stop at blankets and socks, but is an ongoing sponsor for Meals on Wheels NEPA, with generous donations to various events and programs throughout the year.
